Cameron Morgan is a singer/songwriter, virtuoso guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. His propensity for reverb drenched psychedelic rock informed his early musical development even as he completed a B.M. in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 1998. Soon after, Cameron took his improvisational style (steeped in alternate tunings and odd-time signatures) on the road – first New York then Los Angeles. In 2008, he relocated to Portland, Oregon.
Layering and looping with vocals and guitar, Cameron’s performances are in essence, improvisational performance set to melody-driven songwriting. His vocal style has been compared to David Byrne; multi-instrumentation to Jon Brion; and songwriting to Jeff Buckley.
In 2005, Cameron released his first solo concept album, “The Ambition Tax.” Currently, he is working with the new collaborative, Groundlift.org, lead by Grammy Award winning recording engineer, S. Husky Hoskulds, (Tom Waits, Norah Jones). Also in the works is 15 years worth of material to be released at cameronmorgan.com using a pay-as-you-go model.
Cameron has played on numerous albums, movie trailers and for various studio projects in addition to playing with Jesca Hoop, Wynton Marsalis, Tone Loc, Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction, and other fine artists. From 2002 to 2009, Cameron composed for and played with MASS ENSEMBLE, a performance art troupe that strings instruments to buildings and natural outcroppings. MASS ENSEMBLE has performed in theatres and music festivals world wide, as well as hitting U.S. favorites, Coachella, Bumbershoot, and Lollapalooza.
